Profile

Deyanira has worked as a lecturer teaching Spanish in several universities since 2018.

Before teaching at universities, Deyanira's primary background was conference interpreting having worked as an interpreter for the United Nations and several other institutions such as the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Tribunal of Evictions.

In 2018, she started teaching Spanish at Strathmore University in Kenya where she developed an interest in intercultural communication and culture-based language teaching. Inspired by this approach to language pedagogy, she organised workshops and extracurricular activities for the students at her university. She carried this approach to Université de Nantes in France, and now to the University of Hong Kong where she works as a visiting lecturer.

Her main interest is fostering students' engagement and cultural appreciation through diverse and interactive activities that help them get closer to the culture while practising the language. Being among the many activities in her curriculum, she has created a bilingual Fanzine written by the students in the Spanish programme at the University of Hong Kong and hosted a short-film festival showcasing short films created entirely by her students in Nantes Université.

Deyanira holds a master's degree in Conference Interpreting from the Universidad de la Laguna and a master's degree in Culture, Communication, Society and Politics.

She is also currently continuing her further education, being currently enrolled in master's programme on Online Communication and Education.
